FAQ

Where is CFSA? And Where the heck am I supposed to park?

We have a small parking lot next to our building that is first-come first-serve. There is also plenty of metered parking on 10th Street (1/2 block from our building). Please note that the meters DO require payment on Saturdays.

We are also a 10 minute walk away from 3 Metro Stations: Pentagon, Pentagon City and Crystal City.

Tell me about CFSA? What is the box like?

CFSA is a large warehouse – with pull-up cages, lifting platforms, kettle bells, yoga mats, voodoo bands and more – but more importantly, as we like to say, it’s a school of fitness where members can come to be educated and supported as they learn. Our educational opportunities include level-based classes, Goal Setting, Olympic Weightlifting, Yoga, Mobility Classes and an extensive Nutrition Program.

We believe that we are a living example of our motto, Fueled by Community, and are fortunate to house a variety of individuals who work together to achieve personal goals – both in and out of the gym. It is these members who make our ‘box’ such a lively, rambunctious community.

To hear more about our story, check out our schedule or set up a one-on-one to come visit.

How do you communicate with the gym community?

We are glad that you asked! We have set up a private Facebook group for our members. To be added to the group simply friend Siddharth (Sawkar) and he will add you in! If you don’t have Facebook, we encourage you jump on the bandwagon and simply put it in “lock-down” mode. We also send out monthly emails to the group to communicate the monthly events, but the day-to-day information will always trickle through FB.

Does CrossFit really work?

Yes, it absolutely works! CrossFit is the best fitness program in the world.

We have a few success stories of our own, but you can also find these success stories across the web: Patrick James and Shannon DeGraw.

An even better solution to understanding why it is effective is to come in and try it for yourself! When you are here, talk to some of our members. Ask them if CrossFit works and if it has changed their lives.

If I am a woman, will CrossFit make me bulky?

No, strong is the new skinny and bulking doesn’t happen easily! Furthermore, we KNOW that weight training improves bone density, weight management (you burn more calories at rest!) and cardiovascular health. Those three things alone could prevent osteoporosis, diabetes and heart disease. The benefits don’t lie!

What is Foundations/On-Ramp? How do I transition in?

Different gyms apply different names to their introductory classes. For example, you might hear terms such as ‘Foundations’ or ‘Elements’ used to distinguish a set of classes meant to teach new members the basics of the CrossFit program.

Here, at CFSA, we do things a little differently. We offer Level 100 classes for new and beginner level CrossFitters. Through these classes new members learn the fundamental movements of CrossFit at their own pace. The classes are geared towards teaching the basics of movement and skills and members are able to attend these classes for as long as is needed to transition into CrossFit. Once new members are proficient in all the basic movements, they can join the Level 200 classes.

This model is beneficial to individual and community growth because it helps us to teach each member at the appropriate and necessary level for individual advancement.

Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

No, our workouts and exercises scale to any level! We have trained everyone from eighty-five-year-old grandmothers to obese individuals in need of a healthy shift, and they’ve all been fine. You will be too. Click here to learn more about getting started.

What if I’m REALLY out of shape and I’m kind of terrified?

We promise you will be totally fine. Trust us.

We have trained people who were bigger, weaker, older, and less coordinated than you are, and they not only survived, but also thrived in the environment. In fact, if you asked around our gym, you’d likely hear everyone say that they were terrified at their first class – they’d also likely tell you that since starting, they have greatly enhanced their fitness level through our CrossFit programming!

It might be scary at first, but walking through the door is the hardest part. Once you join, you’ll find a sea of friendly faces (better known as our CFSA Community), welcoming you into each class.

I have/had an injury, can I still do CrossFit?

We highly recommend you discuss any workout program with your physician in advance of starting something new, but we have worked with individuals who were recovering from major injuries and have scaled workouts appropriately to fit their current fitness needs.

We have also had members successfully use CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form of functional movements, and to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether.

Our coaches are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute movements in order to tailor workouts to your abilities. We also offer yoga, mobility, and nutrition as part of our class offerings – each is guaranteed to help your body get stronger, more mobile and aid in health and recovery.

I just relocated to Arlington, but I’ve been CrossFitting for so long that I named my kids “Fran” and “Helen.” Can I join as a member and start coming to the WOD classes?

Send us an e-mail so we can chat.  We’ll get you into the right class as soon as you can make time to visit us!

I’m just visiting Arlington, but I’ve been CrossFitting forever. Can I please come to a WOD?

We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over the world. Just check our class schedule, send us an e-mail at info@crossfitsoutharlington.com to let us know when you plan to drop-in for a WOD. The cost is $20 a class or $50 for a single-week pass. Cash is preferred. Be sure to arrive 10 minutes early to complete paperwork and let your coach know your level of experience with CrossFit training. Also indicate whether you have any limitations. We look forward to meeting you!

Can I just come to CFSA and workout on my own?

In general, no. For our athletes participating in our Level 250, we allow a degree of freedom that enables them to train multiple times a day and during normal class hours outside of our regular class structure.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself. And basic ‘workout clothes’ – shorts or sweats, a t-shirt, hand towel, sneakers, water bottle. We provide everything else.

If I have complaints/comments whom should I contact?

Your happiness is very important to us. Please let us know what we are doing wrong (and right) and how we can improve. You can email us info@crossfitsoutharlington.com.
